Ocean Lakes Family Campground - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

This past spring our family enjoyed a visit to Ocean Lakes Family Campground.  We went in March too early to get in the ocean water or swim in the outdoor pools but warm enough to play in the sand, fish, and enjoy being outdoors.  We make several of our trips in the off-season because sometimes it is nice just to have a place all to yourselves.  Have I mentioned my dislike of crowds before now?

It was our first trip to Ocean Lakes, and we actually had reservations at another local campground but once we arrived we decided not to stay there.  The staff at Ocean Lakes was very easy to deal with, and managed to get us in a site right away on a Friday morning.

We stayed in the Oceanfront 3000 section with a concrete pad, which is a very convenient section, as it is located within just a few feet of the pools, both playgrounds, beach, and is still within walking distance to the Camptown Center which houses Sandy’s Meet N Eat and the store.  All of the campsites are pull through sites that are big rig friendly, while offering cable TV, electric, water, and sewer hook-ups.

From the moment you enter the gates at Ocean Lakes Family Campground you feel as if you are at a first class resort.  There is plenty to do at the campground, and really no need to leave the grounds for anything.

Guests can spend their time in an indoor heated swimming pool, lounging around an Olympic outdoor swimming pool, the kid friendly splash zone, or spending time on the beach.  If swimming isn’t your thing there is a miniature golf course, an arcade, a nature center, a skate park, and two playgrounds.  The campground also offers bike rentals, and planned activities throughout the year.

If you are in the mood for something to eat the campground has a café, an oceanfront snack shack, and Sandy’s Meet n’ Eat.  Our visit fell during Lent and Sandy’s Meet n’ Eat held a fish fry on Friday night.  For just $5.50 you received Flounder, a side of cole slaw, fries, and a coke.

For further convenience the campground has an onsite store that carries all of your basic grocery items, toiletries, and beach related items, souvenirs, and even equipment for your camper.

The campground also offers onsite laundry facilities.  Soapy Suds is a full service Laundromat, or if you are not in the mood to do your own laundry you can use Sandy’s Fluff N Fold, a laundry drop-off service.

The campground also offers a covered picnic area with a wonderful view of the ocean.

The one downside to the campground is that it is so large, and you cannot walk to everything on the grounds.  A golf cart is a must, and the campground rents them for just $16 a day, or you can bring your own electric golf cart for a charge of $2 per day.  If you don’t own your own golf cart you can always buy one at Ocean Lakes Golf Car Sales and Service.

Here's What You Need to Make The Best of Your Trip:

  • Campsites range in price from $27 to $67 per night depending on the time of year you visit and which campsite you choose.

  • Ocean Lakes is a pet friendly campground but pets are not allowed on the beach from May 15th to September 15th.
  • is 3 PM and check-out is 11AM.
    Check-in
Here's how we rated Ocean Lakes Family Campground:

Ocean Lakes is by far the nicest campground we have yet to stay at.  It blew us away with it's resort-like amenities and something for everyone.  We all enjoyed our trip and there was plenty for us to do while we were there.  We never once heard our kids say "I'm bored".  Ocean Lakes is definetly a campground that we will visit again.
