A thirteen hundred acre state park located in Mitchell, Indiana Spring Mill State Park offers park visitors plenty of activities in a family friendly atmosphere. 

We have made several trips to Spring Mill State Park and spent several nights in their campground.  The campground at Spring Mill State Park features one hundred and eighty-seven electric sites and thirty-six primitive sites. The sites are very spacious, with some that are wooded and some that are open.

There are two nice playgrounds inside of the campground, with several campsites adjacent to the playgrounds. A creek runs through the campground and is a favorite place for kids to play. The campground itself is very family friendly, and is well maintained.

The entrance to the campground is staffed and only those staying at the campground are permitted to enter which helps give a sense of security to those staying in the campground.  At night, park rangers travel through the campground, keeping a close eye on what is going on. 

The only two downsides of the campground that we noticed during our stay were the shower houses and the fact that some of the sites hold water when it rains. The campgrounds reservation system does note which individual sites do hold water. As for the shower houses, they are not dirty or unkempt but they are old, outdated, and severely in need of a remodel.

Just outside of the campground is an Olympic sized swimming pool that offers modern bathhouses. The swimming pool costs $2 per person per day, there are no discounts for campers but you can purchase a discount card for $35, which allows for twenty-five entries into the pool.
If you enjoy being in nature there are several hiking trails and mountain bike trails to explore. There is also a fishing pond for fishing.

Those who are history buffs will enjoy visiting the Pioneer Village at Spring Mill State Park. The Pioneer Village was an 1800's village that features the original homes and sawmill that were present during that time period.

In addition to the Pioneer Village visitors can also visit the park's Nature Center, which features animals that are native to Indiana and gives a history of the park, and the Gil Grissom Memorial, that is a tribute to Mitchell, Indiana native Gil Grissom, the second man to visit the moon.

Here's What You Need to Know to Make The Best of Your Trip:

• Campsite rates at Spring Mill State Park vary depending on the date of your stay. Sunday through Wednesday nights are the cheapest with a primitive campsite costing $6.12 per night, a non-electric site costing $10.20 per night, an electric site costing $17.34 per night and a full hook-up site costing $24.48 per night. Thursday through Saturday nights have slightly higher rates with a primitive campsite costing $8.16 per night, a non-electric site costing $13.26 per night, an electric site costing $25.50 per night, and a full hook-up site costing $34.68. There are also higher campsite fees charged on holiday weekends.
• Spring Mill Campground is pet-friendly. 
• The Pioneer Village is open daily May to mid-October from 9 AM to 5 PM
• The Nature Center is open daily from May until October from 10 AM to 5 PM
• The Grissom Memorial is open year round from 8:30 AM to 4 PM but is closed on New Years Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas
